Deconstructing "Tiki Torches"

This song is basically an overview of where I’m currently at in my life. It’s also a summary of the whole Fine China album. You could listen to this one song and get a pretty decent look into my life and why I have decided to no longer stay silent.

5 years ago I was already several years deep into the deconstruction of my evangelical beliefs.

And then along came trump.

And with trump also came a resurgence of this twisted christian/conservative hybrid world view that so many people now swear allegiance to. Where Jesus rides on an American eagle with an AR15 on his back and a maga hat on his head. Somehow along the way christianity and republicans have become one and the same.

We now live in a world where a human as disgusting as donald trump can somehow be praised and worshipped for being “god’s chosen man” and at the same time display absolutely zero of the attributes of the Christ that people claim to follow.

Not too surprising though to be honest. I mean, our nation was built upon a slightly different sick and twisted version of christianly as well.

A christianity that celebrated the theft and genocide of the indigenous people of this land. A christianity that fought and bled for the rights to continue to own stolen black human beings. Our nation at its foundation was built on the same version of christianity that trump campaigned and won the presidency on. A christianity that sets silently as KKK members and other white supremacy groups feel comfortable again to come out of their basements and walk openly in the streets letting their hatred blaze as bright as their Tiki Torches.
